Today in class we had Rob and Chris deliver a very effective presentation. Before hand I knew nothing about Clickers/turning point or the existence of them. I find it exciting to learn about new technology I have not previously experienced. Clickers would be very effective in some classroom situations especially with multiple testing. I asked the question about whether it would be appropriate for all secondary schooling subjects. My answer was yes, as it is mostly used in this setting today. But my concern came from my context as a studying secondary English teacher. I agree that in science, maths and Society and environment classes it would be very useful. However, I believe that using it in an English classroom setting would not be appropriate. We as teachers encourage our students to interpret texts in their own way to learn and understand the world around them. Using clicker program would require the teacher to provide their own answers to the questions limiting student responses. I’m not saying it couldn’t be used in an English class as there may be uses for it. I would probably not use this in my classroom practice, nevertheless I think is would be beneficial to certain classroom situations. I may research Clickers more to found out its functions, and then maybe I will change my mind.
The next presentation we viewed today was search engines and online resources presented by Kim and Tracy. When researching my main resource is Google, which is actually my internet homepage. It was interesting to discover other online resource websites and ones that are specifically for younger children. It was concerning to find sites that were very inappropriate for children. It makes me wonder how sites like this still exist for anyone to look at. My main thoughts after the presentation was where to look when your looking for specific resources, such as looking for activities for documentaries that can be used in the classroom. Are their search engines (besides the popular ones) that I can use to find these types of resources and how do I find them when I need to. It’s also important to consider searching techniques, how to find the right information.

Hi my name is Haley Mackenzie and I am doing a bachelor of secondary education majoring in English at Curtin University. I am currently in my second year of my course and am about to do my second teaching prac, which I’m pretty nervous about. The purpose of this Blog is to write reflections for the innovations that we will be seeing in class. The reflections are apart of our assessment and will give us a chance to express our thoughts and questions we may have about the innovations we will be learning.
I have had no experience with Blogs and have no idea what I will get out of it. It will be interesting to see what I will acheive out of this Blog, and to see how my first initial impressions of Blogs will chang
